Last night I tried to give you a heads-up to catch The Simpsons, which delivered an excellent 450th episode and 20th anniversary special.
If you missed them, no worries: both are available on Hulu. Morgan Spurlock directed The Simpsons 20th Anniversary: In 3-D! On Ice!. It includes commentary from creator Matt Groening, Conan O'Brien, Sting, Dan Rather, South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Dr. Ruth (ha!) and dozens of other fans of the pop-culture phenomenon. (I must make a trip to Voodoo Doughnuts the next time I'm in Portland.)
The episode isn't too shabby, either; it includes a charming guest appearance by Anne Hathaway and a funny, well-timed story involving how network execs ruin The Krusty the Clown Show for ratings.
"My goal from the very beginning was to invade pop culture -- that was my goal as an underground cartoonist, to see how far I could carry this," Groening says. "My advice to any cartoonist out there is to try to make yourself laugh. Don't worry about what other people think is funny. Do what you think is funny. That's where the best stuff comes from."
